Busing is a stressful time for both the children and parents, but hopefully with the NYC Student Transportation Modernization Plan there will be some comfort in knowing where our children are

In 2019, the DOE began a multi-year project to modernize NYC’s student transportation system. This will provide families with essential information and peace of mind when their children are utilizing DOE transportation, as well as creates new lines of communication between schools, bus companies, and families.

Routing : upgrade route design and management systems to be more efficient
Fleet : update the DOE’s vehicle tracking and management systems
Automatic vehicle location (AVL): provide location data about our buses while they take children to and from school
Ridership : verify when and where a student boards and exits a school bus
Real-time communications : provide information to bus staff, schools, and families about student transportation to and from school
- Families can receive notifications about their child
- Seamless communication between families, bus companies, and schools

How do I find my child's bus route?

Sign in to your NYCSA (NYC Student's Account) and under "TRANSPORTATION" you will find your child's bus route.

How do I add or change an Alternate Afternoon Drop Off request??

Once you find out what your child's bus route, you will be able to change the the ALTERNATE DROP-OFF online in the Transportation Support Hub. CLICK HERE and "CREATE TICKET" to make the changes. Please understand, the change does not happen right away and you will need to wait at least a week for the change to be in effect. Keep check your child's Transportation folder in your NYC Students Account.

If I have problems with my bus, what do I do?

Call OPT at 718-392-8855 and receive an incident number. Have your child's student ID number ready.

PRESS 1 : Request, change or cancel bussing service
PRESS 2 : Information on your child's bus route
PRESS 3 : Questions about Metro card or Transportation Eligibility
PRESS 4 : Information NYC Bus App
PRESS 5 : If your child's school bus is more than 30 minutes

Also, contact your UNIT COORDINATOR and they too will file an incident to OPT against the bus company. The more incident reports you file against the bus company , the faster they will correct the problem.

What is the maximum amount of time my child is allowed on the bus?

Unless there is a "limited time travel" specified on your child's IEP for medical reasons, your child can stay up to 90 minutes on a bus within each borough, one way, or up to 115 minutes between boroughs.

It is important to know what time your child's start and end times are. If your GPS is not available, then communicate with your UNIT COORDINATOR for both drop off time and start time.

The bus never showed up and I had to call a car service/uber. How can receive reimbursement?
